Hi!
We’re Apo and Kev, founders of Bay of Fire Swimwear. We just took our first trip along the Portuguese coastline, and as ocean lovers and adventure chasers, we had to share our top seaside spots. Enjoy!
Here are our top 6 picks 💌:
#1 – Kayaking in Lagos
We rented kayaks in Lagos and paddled to Ponta da Piedade — crystal-clear water, white sandstone cliffs, hidden caves, and secret beaches. An unforgettable afternoon of sunbathing on the kayak, swimming in turquoise bays, and feeling completely off the grid.

#2 – Stay in Ericeira
Ericeira is a stunning cliffside village with so much charm. Picture this: Byron Bay surf culture meets European heritage — cobblestone streets, vibrant cafés, and a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere. The perfect home base for exploring the coastline.

#3 – Surf (or Hike) at Praia de Ribeira d’Ilhas
One of Portugal’s most iconic surf spots, with multiple peaks - from sandy beach breaks to reef breaks if you enter further north via the rocks.
Tip: Even in summer, the water stays chilly (around 16°C), so we recommend layering a 4/3 wetsuit over your Bay of Fire one-piece or long-sleeve suit.
No waves? No worries — hike the scenic path along the cliffs to Praia dos Coxos.

Ps Don’t forget your camera!
#4 – Visit Peniche + Discover Ciel Glue
Only 45 minutes north of Ericeira, Peniche is a must for its powerful waves, dramatic landscapes, and historic coastal character.
It’s also home to César, the amazing artist behind Ciel Glue — known for his collage work which is inspired by surf, & travel.
You can find some of his work in select local stores - or enter our giveaway via our instagram @bayoffire for a chance to win your own custom-made artwork in a Bay of Fire suit of your choice 😉. Giveaway link

#5 – Swim at Azenhas do Mar Rockpool
A hidden gem we stumbled upon by chance — a natural rockpool nestled below beautiful dark cliffs, with a whitewashed village built right above. Sheltered from the wind yet facing the open ocean, it’s the perfect spot to take a dip in your Bay of Fire bikini and soak in the sun!

#6 – Sunset in Arrifana
Further south in the more remote Aljezur region, Arrifana is a place of raw beauty. With towering ‘falesias’ (cliffs), golden-hour reflections, and gentle surf, it’s ideal for swimming, surfing, or simply soaking in the sunset.

And that’s it! our dream itinerary for the perfect Portuguese coastal adventure, from lazy swims in hidden rockpools to golden-hour surfs and art-filled adventures. Every moment left us feeling so inspired by the beauty, energy, and creativity this coastline has to offer - and we had to share it with you guys.
